DESCRIPTION:Arrangements are underway for the UK Armed Forces Day event in Llandudno in June 2018. \nIt was announced in July that Conwy County Borough Council had been successful in its bid to host the prestigious event on behalf of Wales. \nThe event is supported by the Ministry of Defence\, together with the Welsh Government and Conwy County Borough Council. \nThe week-long event\, which culminates in Armed Forces Day itself on 30 June 2018\, will be located in and around Llandudno. \nArmed Forces Day 2018 will be held in the historic North Wales seaside town of Llandudno. The event\, which will also be the tenth Armed Forces Day\, will be supported by the Ministry of Defence\, together with the Welsh Government and Conwy Borough Council. \nEvents are to be held across the UK to mark Armed Forces Day\, as well as the national event in North Wales. \nDefence Minister for the Lords\, Earl Howe said: \n“Llandudno represents a superb venue for next year’s celebrations and I’m sure the town will bring together the whole nation in celebrating our Armed Forces. \n“Wales was the proud host of the national event in 2010 when thousands of people celebrated in Cardiff. The support from the Welsh Government and local communities\, coupled with the rich and vibrant history of Llandudno\, means that the town is the ideal choice to make the event even more successful in 2018.” \nSecretary of State for Wales Alun Cairns said: \n“I’m delighted that the national Armed Forces Day event will return to Wales in 2018. This time next year\, we will see veterans of wars gone by and soldiers serving in conflicts around the world today marching side by side in Llandudno\, united in pride in service to their country. \n“In Wales we have a special connection with our Armed Forces and this annual event gives the public an opportunity to show their appreciation and pride for our soldiers\, sailors and air personnel who sacrifice so much for others. \n“Our debt of gratitude also extends to the families they leave behind and the veterans past and present who have dedicated years of their lives to service. I am honoured to mark Armed Forces Day today – and in the years to come – in their company.” \nCouncillor Gareth Jones\, Leader of Conwy County Borough Council\, said: \n“We are proud and privileged to be named as the Host of the National Armed Forces Day in 2018. \n“Conwy County has a deep affiliation with the Armed Forces and a strong historical link. Llandudno will be a great destination to showcase the outstanding work of the Armed Forces past and present. \n“The event will be supported by all the North Wales Councils and key colleagues across Wales. Serving personnel and veterans of our Armed Forces Community will be assured of a very warm welcome and an event that thanks them for their commitment to keeping the country safe.” \nNorth Wales has many current and historic links to the Armed Forces\, including and many Regular and Reserve Army units. Many North Walians are proud to serve in the Royal Welsh and nearby RAF Valley on Anglesey is home to a fast jet training base. Nearly 10\,000 veterans live in Conwy\, supported by a number of local and national charities. \nMore details of the programme of events will be revealed in the coming months

DESCRIPTION:TREFRIW\, SNOWDONIA\, WALES – GEARING UP FOR 2018!\n\n\nThe exciting part has started –  we’re now beginning to put together the walks programme for 2018\, some 20 great walks full of variety for all ages and abilities that you’re just going to love.  (Please bear in mind\, though\, that both walks and details are subject to change until we finalise the full programme in February 2018.  Bookings will open in mid-March.) \n2018 is the Year of the Sea in Wales\, and we’re hoping to celebrate this with a walk to the sea. And did you know that the river Conwy is tidal up to Trefriw?  The village has a maritime history (ships were once built here)\, and prior to the railway reaching Llanrwst and Betws-y-coed in the 1860s\, Trefriw Quay shipped vast amounts of slate\, timber and metal ore. The quay continued to be busy with the passenger steamers which came up on high tide\, and this continued until World War 2. \nEven today\, the tides are a contributory factor in the flooding in the valley\, something which occurs most winters. \n

But when he buys a “love potion” from a travelling quack\, the results are rather more than he bargained for. \n  \nCharmingly staged by Bartlett Sher\, Donizetti’s beloved masterpiece combines deft comic timing with touching emotional depth. The production stars Matthew Polenzani\, who enthralled Met audiences as Nemorino in 2013 with his moving “Una furtiva lagrima.” \n  \nRising South African soprano Pretty Yende is the spirited Adina\, Davide Luciano makes his Met debut as the arrogant soldier Belcore\, and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo is the potion-peddling Doctor Dulcamara. Domingo Hindoyan conducts.

SUMMARY:Circles\, Stones and Fragments from the Shore
DESCRIPTION:Estella Scholes\nCircles\, Stones\, and Fragments from the Shore\n3 February – 3 June 2018\nOur series of solo exhibitions celebrating contemporary printmaking continues in Gallery 6 with Estella Scholes. \nMany of Estella’s references are gathered from direct observation whilst wandering along the shorelines of North Wales\, in particular the Llyn Peninsula\, where evidence of an almost vanished industrial past can be found. Broken bits of old jetties\, rusted metal and other manmade debris linger amongst the stones and more familiar beach treasures. \nShe is intrigued by the ambiguity of natural and manmade forms\, eroded almost to abstraction by the elements. Transitory arrangements of colour\, texture and shape endlessly appear and disappear in the liminal space between the tides.  These fleeting impressions linger in the mind\, to be further abstracted and rearranged by memory. \nAll prints are for sale framed or unframed\, and the Collectorplan scheme allows you to buy unique pieces of contemporary art and craft over a period of 12 months
